Aufhebung – International Hegelian Association is inviting scholars to apply for an international conference CONCEPT/S: HEGEL’S AESTHETICS to be held from 11th until 14th of January 2018 at the Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana. Hegel’s lectures on Aesthetics – perhaps the least explored work by the author of the Phenomenology of Spirit – is part of a vivid German tradition stretching from Lessing, Kant, Schiller, Goethe, to Nietzsche, Heidegger, Adorno. Hegel’s philosophy of arts encompasses a wide range of topics, from ancient architecture to modern theatre, from religious paintings to secular literature. The most interesting interventions by Hegel are not only those that influenced the immediate philosophical discipline of aesthetics, but also those that provide us with concepts for our contemporary debates on art. One prominent example is Hegel’s thesis that art is becoming more and more philosophical in the course of its history, a thesis that was the springboard for speculations about the end of art and anticipated questions regarding the status of conceptual artworks. These questions are not significant only for theories of art and contemporary conceptual art, but also define the status of philosophy as such. Confirmed speakers: Rebecca Comay, Mladen Dolar, Frank Ruda, Alenka Zupančič, Andrew Cole, Robert Pfaller, Keti Chukrov, Sami Khatib, Samo Tomšič
